Summary |
On December 12th 1996, Dr Gary Fulcher's life changed forever. While driving his car, he had a hyperglycaemic episode due to his insulin-dependent diabetes. He pulled off the side of the road, but didn't turn off the engine...Gary woke up on fire...and his seat belt buckle had melted. Luckily the fire brigade was only 500 metres down the road, but by the time they had freed him, he had third degree burns to 60% of his body.Gary, a clinical psychologist, has been a very active and fit man, but now it was a very different story. Ironically he has been a psychologist working in the Burns Unit of Concord hospital, so for Gary there were no illusions as to what his future life would be like. He lost all of his fingers except for one thumb, but now Gary is the cook in the family - quite a feat! And as his wife attests, he is now a better man for the experience...and Gary agrees. Also talking to Andrew this week is American country singer Chris Isaak. A keen surfer, Chris has been a frequent visitor to Australia.PRODUCTION DETAILS:ENOUGH ROPE with Andrew Denton is an ABC TV and Zapruder's Other Films co-production.
