| Summary |
When operations get risky, adrenaline addiction and cynicism set in for the young soldiers at the front line in Afghanistan. Armadillo: Afghan Frontline is a journey into the minds of a small group of Danish soldiers and their experiences of modern warfare.The program follows two young soldiers, Mads and Daniel, who travel to the war in Afghanistan on their first tour of duty. Adventurous and open-minded when they leave their country, the experience is not at all what they expected. After seven months they return home, disillusioned about their mission.The film is not only a journey into the young soldiers' minds but also an examination of what it means to be at war. The young men develop anxiety and paranoia, and also a dependence on their adrenaline kicking in when they're in combat.During their stay in Afghanistan they lose their sense of empathy and feeling of fellowship with the Afghans, the people they were sent out to help in the first place. For them, the locals they meet all turn into potential enemies. Bit by bit, they are brutalised by their violent experiences and the extreme pressure they're acting under.
