Summary A WING AND A PRAYERCould airline giant Boeing really have allowed ill-fitting and dangerous parts into the construction of some of its 737 planes, potentially risking the lives of passengers?Dozens of the planes are in Australian skies and there have been three suspicious crashes elsewhere in the world, but an investigation to be screened on Sunday's Dateline alleges that Boeing and the United States authorities have taken little action. Two former Boeing employees turned whistleblowers, Gigi Prewitt and Taylor Smith, are at the heart of the story. They say they couldn't keep quiet any longer over defective parts being made by a subcontractor, Ducommun, which they say were then allowed into 737 Next Generation planes between 1996 and 2004... some even had to be hammered into shape or packed with filler to make them fit.Their allegations have been all the way to the US Department of Justice, the Federal Aviation Administration and the Defence Criminal Investigative Service - all have dismissed them, with Boeing saying they're 'without merit'.But Tim Tate's special investigation alleges conflicting information, intimidation, collusion, and ultimately aeroplanes that are unfit to fly. So are we really safe in the skies? DEADLY DRAMAJuliano Mer-Khamis courted controversy all his life... born to a Palestinian Christian father and a Jewish mother, and finding fame as an actor playing both Arab and Jewish roles. But it was the Palestinian cause that he fought for and ultimately sacrificed his life for when he was shot dead, by a Palestinian, in April. His death followed threats against the Freedom Theatre he started in the Jenin refugee camp to provide an alternative to the armed struggle that claimed so many young lives. He put on a series of controversial plays with political storylines and even predicted that they would lead to him being shot dead.On Sunday, video journalist Amos Roberts explores the life and legacy of the actor and activist, and asks if his death could signal the start of a deadly conflict over culture.DATELINE'S YOUTUBE CHANNELDateline now has its own dedicated YouTube channel, bringing our international stories to an even wider audience around the world. It's part of a new tie-up between SBS and YouTube, which will be officially launched later this year with videos from across SBS's range of programs. It means the millions of people who already search for particular subjects and videos on Google and YouTube are now even more likely to find stories from Dateline and SBS.It also makes it even easier to watch Dateline reports on compatible smartphones
