Summary Organizational change is now a staple in organizational life; however, the rate of failure of change initiatives is far higher than the success rate. The research project explored in this research methods case was a study intended to generate and validate an inventory to assess change leader behaviors. A valid inventory helps to build the literature and tools around best practices in leading effective change. Prior to this research, there was not a valid measure of change leader behaviors available in the literature. This research methods case will explore the approach to the development and validation of an instrument, focusing on various sampling methods. First, there will be a discussion of the complexity of using organizations as a sample as well as supplementing a sample with the use of Mechanical Turk. The strengths and limitations of using different sampling methods will be reviewed
