Summary Invertebrate Zoology offers a new approach for undergraduates studying the biology and evolution of invertebrate animals. Contributions from expert authors have ensured that the accounts of the biology of the phyla are contemporary and dynamic, with an emphasis on function, physiology and reproductive biology, rather than on the more traditional comparative anatomy. Recent advances in the cladistic analysis of invertebrate taxonomy are incorporated into the classifications used in the text. Phylogenetic relationships among the invertebrate phyla are then drawn together in a concluding chapter, which sets out the changes in approach to phylogenetic questions resulting from recent studies in cladistics and molecular biology. Specifically designed for one-semester courses, Invertebrate Zoology brings the subject of invertebrate biology to life in the context of modern advances in the biological sciences
