Summary |
In the beautiful, mountainous Kashmiri region, a Hindu brahmin family is massacred by terrorists in the name of religion. Vinod, a thirteen-year-old boy is the only one who survives the rampage. Terrified that the terrorists will return for him, Vinod begs Mr. Wattal, the Home Secretary of the State to take him away from his village. Worried for the boy, Mr. Wattal appeals for the state to provide Vinod with a grant. He succeeds in securing the grant, prompting Vinod's uncle to return and stake his claim on the boy. However, Vinod finds himself used and mistreated by his uncle and runs away, back to Mr. Wattal. Faced with the responsibilities and pressures of his family, Mr. Wattal must decide what he can best do for the boy, without betraying his trust in him. 'Father' is one of only a handful of films, to have emerged from the conflicted Kashmiri region. Awards/Festivals: Best Feature on National Integration, National Film Awards, India |
