Notes Professor Askar Zhussupbekov is affiliated to the Eurasian National University, Astana, Kazakhstan. He received his Diploma of Civil Engineering (1977) from Saint-Petersburg State Architectural and Civil Engineering University (SPBGASU), Saint-Petersburg, Russia, his Dr. Ph. Degree (1985) from SPBGASU, and his Doctor of Science Degree (1996). His main research interests are in the areas of geotechnical engineering (piling and deep foundations), geomonitoring, undermining soil ground, disaster prevention and reduction, in situ testing. He is currently Chairman of ISSMGE TC305 'Geotechnical Infrastructure for Megacities and New Capitals' and President of the Kazakhstan Geotechnical Society. Dr. Assel Sarsembayeva works at the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Astana, Kazakhstan. Her main research interests include freezing soils, engineering geology, geotechnical engineering, rock mechanics, soil mechanics, slope stabilty, and soil analysis. Victor N. Kaliakin, a Liberty University Research Affiliate, is a professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Delaware and a member of the Geotechnical research group. His main research interests include computational geomechanics, the development and implementation of constitutive models for cohesive soils, and the development of robust constitutive models for polymeric reinforcement. He has authored two textbooks as well as numerous chapters in edited books, refereed journal papers, and papers appearing in conference proceedings. Victor Kaliakin is member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), a charter member of the Engineering Mechanics Institute (ASCE), member of the Geo-Institute (ASCE), the American Academy of Mechanics, the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, and the Kazakhstan Geotechnical Society (KGS)
