Summary The convicted Lockerbie bomber, Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi (who continues to maintain his innocence) is making headlines after being released from prison on compassionate grounds on August 20 this year. He's terminally ill with prostate cancer and recently abandoned his appeal so he could be released. While many relatives of the victims are extremely angry that he has been allowed to return to Libya, others worry that the decision to abandon the appeal means they may never know the truth about the bombing. The Conspiracy Files: Lockerbie examines allegations that the Libyans were set up; that evidence implicating Libya was planted or tampered with. The filmmakers look for answers from the leader of the FBI's Lockerbie task force, Dick Marquise, as well as family members of victims. Many believe that Abdelbaset Ali Mohamed al-Megrahi, who was convicted of the murders, was a fall guy. If he was responsible for placing the bomb, they believe, then he was a pawn in a much bigger political game. Martin Cadman, whose son Bill died in the disaster, tells the filmmakers: "The truth has not come out. I think the investigation found out what it was told to find."
