Summary This case study describes the process of undertaking a mixed-methods systematic review. The purpose of the review was to identify, describe, and synthesize studies that explored either the experience of informal caregivers of people with dementia when levels of formal support increased, or the impact of this increase. The process, findings, and methodological challenges of the review are discussed in detail, enabling students to increase their knowledge of systematic review, and become aware of some benefits and challenges of taking a mixed-methods approach
