Summary Anja Taylor examines what exactly is an energy drink - Is it a soft drink, a supplement, or a potential toxic cocktail?ENERGY DRINKSAs sales of energy drinks skyrocket so do concerns about their safety. Do these quick, cheap energy aids deliver on their promise or are they dangerous cocktails taking a toll on our health? A growing body of research links energy drink consumption to cardiovascular risk, in extreme cases causing death, as well as to other health concerns such as headaches, anxiety, insomnia, hallucinations and seizures. Anja Taylor examines what exactly is an energy drink - Is it a soft drink, a supplement, or a potential toxic cocktail? 3D VIRUSImagine a world where viruses didn't exist and the only viruses were virtual ones. Scientists could research viruses safely and efficiently without the need for costly lab setups and time -hungry experiments. This could be the reality if the 3D poliovirus model is anything to go by. Using a supercomputer, 3.6 million atoms were manipulated to produce a biologically accurate 3D simulated model of the poliovirus. This is now being used as a toolkit model for other viruses of public health concern. MILITARY UNIFORMSHidden away in a nondescript part of Melbourne is a new very sci-fi-looking facility. With the push of a few buttons, this enormous chamber can recreate any environment on Earth: from the hot, steamy conditions of the jungles of Papua New Guinea to the dry, freezing environment of the Afghanistan highlands. The purpose of this world-first facility is to safely test the equipment our defence forces use before being they take it out into a war zone. Graham Phillips visited the day they were investigating the effectiveness of our diggers' chemical warfare suits
