"This book reports on the progress of the Central Committee on Personnel Methods, under the American Council on Education, to should learn enough concerning the capacity, the temperament, the character, the cultural background, and the economic resources of college students and enough concerning the demands made upon these qualities by the various vocations so that the individual could find with a considerable degree of assurance the life work which would enable him to attain the maximum of effectiveness. The first project the Committee felt to be of great importance was the development of a better method for preserving information concerning the student--the personal record card. The second project proposed by the Committee had to do with the preparation of achievement tests in various subject matters. The third project for which the Central Committee sought financial support deals with the nebulous field of personality measurement. The fourth project dealt with affording vocational advice to inquiring students and the preparation of vocational monographs which would aim to describe in as clear and objective a manner as possible the kind of life that a person is called upon to live in any profession under consideration, the qualities demanded for success, the economic rewards, and the likelihood of openings for well trained persons.
