Summary When is it time to hang up your boxing gloves and call it a day? In the inspirational documentary Fighting Chance, a 42-year old Bosnian refugee will battle the odds in order to represent Australia and claim a World Boxing Championship title.Nermin Sabanovic is a strong willed man. After already earning OPBF and Australian Boxing titles, he believes nothing can stop him from taking the big one! However, Nermin's passion for boxing does not extend to his wife Indira and his two daughters who fear that stepping into the ring is far too risky for a man his age, and would much rather see him focus on his role as a project officer with the Aboriginal Sobriety Group (ASG) in Adelaide. In the nine years in which Nermin has patrolled the streets of Adelaide to ensure the safety of the Indigenous people, he has come to consider himself as much Aboriginal as he is Bosnian-Australian. Nermin's empathy and understanding comes from his own experiences in the former Yugoslavia where being a high profile sports star and a Muslim meant he was forced to flee the war that was going on in his homeland. After arriving in Australia in 1993 as a refugee, Nermin decided to return to the ring as a professional boxer. His experience within the International boxing circuit meant he was in a strong position to win the Australian Super Cruiserweight Title. But sadly a serious road accident a week before the fight forced him into early retirement.Since his extraordinary comeback at age 40 and recent Australian title victory, Nermin has once again become an icon for the fiercely patriotic Bosnian community in Australia and back home in Bosnia. But for Nermin's family he is already a hero, and they can't understand his determination to relive past glory and contest a world title even at the risk of some serious consequences.
