Summary This quantitative study is cross-sectional, descriptive, and non-experimental by design and explores six research objectives. The purpose of the study was to determine if a relationship exists between work engagement of employees at a higher education institution and their perception of their influence on student integration and retention. While the current study was purely quantitative, the research methodology of the study would have produced more actionable findings if mixed methods were used. The findings of the study indicate faculty and staff at the institution surveyed are engaged in their work. A direct, positive relationship exists between work engagement levels and faculty and staff́s perception of influence on student integration and retention. Combining qualitative research methods such as personal interviews and focus groups with the current quantitative analysis could have resulted in more detailed and robust findings
