"Government photography is easily associated with dry public relations shots distributed alongside press releases. In this exhibition, you will see none of these. Instead, you will see animals, plants and landscapes. You will see people working, playing, travelling, shopping and celebrating. You will see the beauty of our natural and built environments. The photographers featured in Focus were skilled professionals who mastered their craft while working for the Australian Government. Many were afforded a significant amount of creative freedom, with wide-open briefs simply directing they capture 'rural life' or 'nature'. This freedom, coupled with the talent of the photographers themselves, resulted in an incredible breadth and range of photographs." |
