An analysis of the census identified Indigenous population from 1991 to 1996 revealed high population growth due to increased ethnic identification and changes in regional distribution away from the north and west to urban areas in the east and south; social and economic policy implications of the finding that the increased population will remain disadvantaged in terms of socioeconomic status
