Summary Cora Bailey ventures into some of South Africa's most deprived areas to treat people's animals, but this township vet also has to confront the even more urgent needs of their owners. She simply can't say no to helping the ill, injured and abused animals that come her way and every one of them has a story behind it."There's a bond between people and companion animals that's existed forever," she tells Amos Roberts on Tuesday's Dateline. "And that's for the rich and poor."But while those in Johannesburg's wealthy suburbs can afford animal care, it's a different story in the tough townships where she works. Her clinic is backed by an animal charity and has no electricity or water, but she's still available around the clock to save animals and act as a sort of social worker for local communities."Cora is on the go 24/7," her colleague Saskia Karius tells Amos. "She helps, I think, anything that moves or that breathes, whether it's got two legs or four legs."
