Summary National Dyeing and Bleaching Works was established in 1987 by Rafique Mohammed in Sanganer, Jaipur, India. Rafique established the company to support the local artisans who catered to the domestic market. By 2010, the company had had started generating a turnover of INR 3 M (at that time around USD 42,000). However, in 2010 NDB witnessed a severe slump, to such an extent that there were no orders residing with the company. The next generation, sons of Mr. Rafique, has joined the company and the company started reviving. By 2018, NDB experienced considerable growth and turnover reached INR 1.5 M (at that time around USD 21,000). But the company had not been able to avoid problems specific to family businesses, including succession issues. The younger generation focuses on technology input and has a different vision on financial management, credit policy, and on export issues. This case encourages students to identify various intergenerational issues in a family business and the need for technology in business
