A documentary profile of Sir Flinders Petrie, the distinguished British archaeologist who devoted his life to the study of the civilisations of Egypt and Palestine, laying the foundations of their archaeology. Extracts from his journals are read throughout the film. In 1977 Chronicle showed the dissection of an unknown mummy at Manchester University. In the six years since then Dr. Rosalie David and her research team have developed many new techniques to investigate the death, state of health and life-style of the survivors of ancient Egypt.
