Summary This week on Talking Heads, Peter Thompson's guest is an Australian legend. On the one hand, Victor Bray's gourmet tomatoes have been praised by Stephanie Alexander and food writers, and on the other hand he's much loved by folk who like their cars to go 400 kilometres an hour."A family sedan might have 150 to 200 horsepower, we've got three and a half thousand!"Over 30 years this humble Queensland tomato farmer has built an international reputation in drag racing. He has won the Australian Top Doorslammer Championship on six occasions and previously set a world speed record in drag racing. Bray is so legendary that after he ran over a fan with his insanely powerful beast, his victim just wanted to shake his hand."I went over the barriers and hit a few people... and one guy didn't get up. As I reached down he sort of opened his eyes and started to come to. He looked at me and goes, 'Victor Bray! I've always wanted to meet you!'"The whole Bray family is involved in the sport. Bray's son, Ben, holds the record as the youngest person in the world to win a professional drag event, and has three Australian drag racing championships under his belt. All this is a long way from the illegal street racing and secret nitro boosters that used to fuel Bray's weekends!"I made them believe one thing when another was true, and then go and take them out of the game..."PRODUCTION DETAILS:Produced by ABC TV.
