Chopper Rescue is a unique observational documentary series following the work of the helicopter rescue crews of Emergency Management Queensland (EMQ), who serve the people of far north Queensland. The Chopper Rescue crews are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and operate out of two bases in the far north cities of Townsville and Cairns. Consisting of pilot, air crew officer, rescue crew officer, paramedic and emergency doctor, the crews cover vast distances from the outer edge of the Great Barrier Reef to the remote outback. A true observational series, Chopper Rescue does not sensationalise or 'beat up' the extraordinary action which unfolds in front of the camera. As a result the series is a unique and powerful look at human drama and compassion at its most natural and intense.In episode four the Townsville crew leaves before dawn to fly back out to the 'ghost yacht' drifting on the outer edge of the Great Barrier Reef. Police regard the yacht as a potential crime scene and the crew must pick up vital navigation equipment and computers which may provide information needed to help search for the missing three-man crew. After they have retrieved the equipment, the Townsville crew joins an all out search for the vanished men. Meanwhile, the Cairns crew flies to the Mossman River Gorge. A teenage boy has become stranded on a rock in the middle of rapids and all attempts to reach him have failed.The only way to get him safely off the rock is to lower down a crewman to winch the boy up to the helicopter. With strong winds and high terrain all around, the helicopter will have to use maximum power to complete the task.
