| Summary |
Country Town Rescue is the compelling story of how ordinary Australians come together to save the small rural town of Trundle, whose falling population threatens its very existence. But Trundle isn't going down without a fight. Town members have heard about a scheme that just might work for them. The idea is simple. Rent out some of the abandoned farmhouses for just a dollar a week and attract new families to the town. They call it 'Trundle Tree Change'. Filmed over twelve months, this series follows five families who 'up sticks' with their kids and move to Trundle. They are welcomed by a passionate group of locals determined to see the small town not only survive but prosper. In the first episode the tree change scheme is launched and applications flood in. On the day of the Trundle Christmas Fair, the committee start interviewing the short-listed applicants. After a long day the committee retire to the pub and agonise and argue over the short list. Finally the decisions are made and the families are notified. They are all delighted and one of the families, the Guerkes tell the committee they have already packed up their house and arrive shortly afterwards. They waste no time getting down to work stripping floors and washing walls. The Elemams are the next to arrive. Despite the fact that their farmhouse is one of the farmhouses in the best condition, husband Nabih looks devastated upon arrival.
