Summary |
Should we forgo the foreskin in the name of public health? There's fierce argument in Australian medical circles about whether routine circumcision could significantly reduce the risk of illnesses including urinary tract infections, penile cancer, cervical cancer (for the partners of circumcised men) and HIV. What we do know is that far fewer boys are circumcised now than a generation ago. Why has the trend reversed so sharply? And should it be more widespread?
