Summary 30 kings and queens, princes and princesses tell their family history - stories of power, love, triumph, tragedy and honour in a Europe ruled by dynasty politics and where arranged marriages created alliances between countries. This six-part series was four years in the making and includes interviews with Crown Prince Frederick of Denmark and his mother Margrethe II, Queen of Denmark. This episode continues the family saga, detailing the expanding royal family. Frederik VIII, Christian IX and Queen Louise's eldest son, was likeable, bright, and politically well-informed. His Swedish wife, Lovisa, was dull and not particularly good looking. Their marriage was not an easy one but nevertheless they managed to produce eight children, and it was via them that the line of Christian IX reached Norway, Sweden, Belgium, and Luxemburg. Among Frederik VIII and Lovisa's descendents today are Queen Margrethe of Denmark, King Harald of Norway, King Albert of Belgium, and Grand Duchess Josephine-Charlotte of Luxemburg.
