Summary |
The USS Monitor, which was the pride of the Union's navy, sank in rough seas in 1862. Recent technological advances have enabled its recovery from the bottom of the ocean. To the surprise of the salvage team, two skeletons were found in its gun turret. We go through the chronology of events that took place on the Monitor, from the moment the sailors boarded it through to its unforgettable battle with the jewel of the Confederate frigates, the Merrimack, until it sank off the North Carolina coast. All the details were meticulously recorded by the ship's paymaster William Frederick Keeler, making him the ship's unofficial biographer. Ever since the Monitor was salvaged, attempts to identify the two mysterious sailors have been going on. (From the UK, in English) (Documentary Series) |
