Summary "This paper presents data derived from an ethnographic study of the older articulate person's experience of nursing home life. it reports on the experiences of older people living in two nursing homes in New South Wales. The main aim of the study was to offer nursing home residents an opportunity to voice their opinion about their experiences. Nursing home residents spoke of their admission experience, the public nature of their experience, the cultural implications of living with others, and the impact of nursing home residency. These findings indicate that, while for some residents the nursing home experience was acceptable, for others the experience was both constraining and dehumanising."--Abstract
