Summary Lauren French is morbidly obese, but she doesn't seem overly concerned about her weight, while Dan Harrison weighs 152kg and struggles to beat his junk food addiction. Neither has managed to slim before, so will living with obese families in Argentina and experiencing life in the capital Buenos Aires' most notorious slums, be the wake-up call they need?Lauren and Dan meet host Miriam Gonzalez and her family who treat them to an asado, a traditional Argentinian barbecue. The following day they head to one of Buenos Aires' biggest abattoirs to find out what it is about meat that makes the Argentinians fat. They are put straight to work on the production line and learn how the poor are sold fatty meat, while the rich get the leaner cuts. Then they stay with Maria, a street cleaner who lives in a Buenos Aires slum where they get an idea of just how widespread the obesity epidemic is.Maria takes them to a local supermarket and they learn how expensive fresh fruit and vegetables are in this meat-loving land, where farmland is predominantly used to graze cattle.A visit to a hip new fashion label launch gives them a glimpse of how the other half live uptown. After talking to some of the partygoers, both Dan and Lauren realise that they are oblivious to the obesity epidemic in the slums. They are also shocked when they see first-hand, the effects of obesity in patients being treated at the hospital. They realise that their hosts' obesity has come about by circumstance rather than choice, unlike theirs.PRODUCTION DETAILS:Executive producer: Eamon Hardy; Series producer: Suzy Jaffe and Angela Norris; Produced and directed by Marta Shaw.
