Art Nation goes to the Biennale of Sydney, Australia's largest contemporary visual arts event where Fenella Kernebone looks at Seoul-based artist and designer Choi Jeong Hwa who is creating a new site-specific work in and around the Sydney Opera House. Using brightly coloured moulded plastic goods, he will transform part of the Opera House's iconic silhouette. In another work, The unbearable lightness of being (2010) and shown in the Royal Botanic Gardens, he presents a large lotus blossom in the garden's Main Pond that inflates and deflates in emulation of the cycles of nature.Namila Benson looks at a new work by Australian Indigenous artist Brook Andrew. Andrew's Jumping Castle War Memorial is a large inflatable structure with a heroic figure at its core decorated with a pattern based on Wiradjurri design. Henry Wagons is off to see the 'post-punk' group The Tiger Lilies perform. Plus Australian artist Fiona Hall creates a new work for the Royal Botanic Gardens consisting of 20 beehives painted in the camouflage patterns of various countries |
