Described by Winston Churchill as 'their finest hour', the Battle of Britain was one of those few occasions in history when the actions of a few changed the destiny - not just of a country - but of the world.To mark the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain, arguably the most important event in modern British history, brothers Colin and Ewan McGregor present a ninety minute special leading us through the timeline of events during the height of the Battle.The program follows the brothers as they meet veterans and find out what it was like to live and fight through that extraordinary summer of 1940.Colin, who is an RAF veteran of 20 years, visits the quarters where the pilots waited for the call to scramble while Ewan goes to the control room in which the defence of Britain was masterminded. But it is the brothers' hands-on experience of the Spitfire that really brings home the tension, pressure and exhilaration of the war in the air.Strapped into the back seat of a two-man Spitfire, Ewan is taken out over Dover's white cliffs and flies along the route the pilots of 1940 would have taken while patrolling the south coast. For Colin, going up in the Spitfire is a slightly different feeling as he is behind the controls of the world's most famous fighter plane - which becomes, for him, a very emotional experience.
