Summary |
The Martínez Carwash, a family business managed by Luis Martínez, has provided financial stability for the family during the past 28 years. At age 52, Luis was beginning to think about retiring and, consequently, about succession planning. Although none of his three sons were ready to take over the business, in Luis' view, each of the three were good men who embodied different capabilities and perspectives. Luis believed strongly in the importance of family harmony and was dismayed that there was tension among the brothers related to current business challenges and to the uncertainty about the future leadership of the firm. Luis wondered what he could do to address both the short-term challenges as well as planning for the business's eventual succession |
