Summary |
In 1995, a newly democratic South Africa rallied behind its rugby team for the first time since the end of apartheid, sharing the victory when the Springboks became unlikely World Cup champions. But the story of sport's critical role in the struggle to create a free and equal South Africa began long before. This film tells the dramatic story behind Clint Eastwood's film Invictus, following the athletes and activists around the world who refused to play with apartheid and pushed South Africa's teams out of international sports competitions. Calling for fairness on and off the field, citizens around the world leveraged sports to bring the human rights crisis in South Africa to the forefront of global attention.
