Charters of our nation / [written by Lenore Coltheart and Susan Marsden for the National Archives of Australia and the National Council for the Centenary of Federation]
Our nation came into being on 1 January 1901, with the federation of six colonies creating the Commonwealth of Australia. A visit to the National Archives of Australia in Canberra makes the facts of this historical landmark as familiar to Australians today as they were a century ago. In the Federation Gallery, especially constructed as a gift to the people of Australia for the Centenary, seven of the nation's key constitutional documents have been brought together for the first time. These precious charters are introduced in this booklet
