"How does a parent cope with the loss of a child? Is losing a son or daughter every parent's nightmare? In this powerful and intimate episode of Compass, mother and Anglican priest Reverend Julie Nicholson attempts to come to terms with the death of her beloved daughter who perished in the July 2005 London bombings: a senseless act of terrorism that caused the death of 52 innocent lives. Julie has now resigned as Vicar of St. Aidan's in Bristol. Her deep, religious faith has been challenged by this tragedy and she finds that preaching peace, reconciliation and forgiveness is not something she is able to do, when she is struggling to practise it herself. As Julie explores the concept of forgiveness, she speaks intimately about loss and suffering as she ponders whether one can practise forgiveness when it comes to the murder of your own child. What does sudden death teach us about life and, can such tragedy challenge your faith? Julie wonders whether knowing how other families have coped with similar tragedy may help her find peace. She visits other parents who have lost a child to find out what forgiveness means to them. Has their faith been challenged also? Can they forgive their child's murderer? Does God play a part in this painful journey for them?
