Summary Researchers make use of mathematical models and statistics for quantitative data analysis and report findings. My study was a quantitative research that focused on the use of integrated supply chain management for promoting competitiveness in the fast-moving consumer goods manufacturing industry in Nigeria and the critical factors affecting implementation and adoption. This case discusses the process of conducting quantitative research and issues encountered during data collection, how pretest was used to determine reliability and validity of the test instrument, and the selection of respondents using stratified random sampling. Also discussed is the role of persistence in dealing with issues such as lost time and gatekeeper and respondent nonresponses during data collection. Furthermore, I explain how my initial plan to conduct my study using mixed-methods approach could not be achieved, resulting in a change to the quantitative method. Finally, I discuss the importance of planning to the success of my study and the selection of the methodology and how planning was influenced by the research questions and the various theories underpinning the research
