Summary |
Monteverdi's exquisitely melancholy vocal music is transported from its 16th century roots into a 21st century dramatised environment. Passions run high as six couples break up and go over the painful details of their complex relationships in a restaurant. The music, in turn serene and brutal, combines with this drama in a heady yet satisfying mix. The music is taken from Monteverdi's fourth book of madrigals. The performance and drama by the musical group I Fagiolini has received widespread critical acclaim. Stars Anna Crookes, Carys Lane, and Clare Wilkinson. (From the UK, in Italian) (Masterpiece) G (65 mins) |
