Summary I Heart My People is a three-part factual documentary series showcasing a never before seen insight into the world of Indigenous health. Narrated by Aaron Pedersen, the series follows key characters; Paramedic Trainee, Gemma Armit, Rescue Chopper, Officer Patrick Martin, Midwife, Margaret Martin, Aboriginal Health Worker, Stanley Ozies, Massage Therapist, Jeremy Batt and Doctor, Sarah McEwen, as they deal with real life medical emergencies and situations across Australia. The series gives a first-hand insight into the motivations, frustrations and willingness of these everyday health care professionals to have a 'heart' for their people. For the first time ever on Australian broadcast television, cameras have been granted rare access into real life Indigenous health services and will confront the experiences and challenges faced in closing the formidable gap in health equality. We find ourselves with Margaret helping in the final stage of birth, Patrick is called to transport a critically ill patient to Cairns and Gemma begins her sometimes dangerous and volatile night shift on Palm Island. This episode, we also meet our additional health care professionals, Dr. Sarah McEwan beginning her shift in the emergency department; 750kms up the road in remote town of Derby, Aboriginal Health Worker Stanley Ozies is tending to a wide range of injuries and health checks; and in Brisbane, Sports Massage Therapist Jeremy Batt is working hard to get his team, The Redcliffe Dolphins, ready for their must win Rugby League match in the lead up the finals. The tension builds as Margaret makes the unfortunate discovery that the umbilical cord is wrapped around the baby's neck, Gemma is called out to an assault situation at 2am with limited information and Stanley faces a critical situation and has to trust in his gut instinct when he goes against a doctor's advice for the greater good of his patient.Follow the conversation on Twitter: #NITV
