Summary |
Crossing the Ice is an incredible journey into the very core of what drives some individuals to risk everything, testing the boundaries of endurance and their human spirit, discovering the ultimate sportsmanship. With the spirit of adventure burning bright following their 62 day record-breaking crossing of the treacherous Tasman Sea in a kayak, two young Australian mates, Cas and Jonesy, dare to tackle the perilous journey across the frozen wasteland of Antarctica to the South Pole and back - completely unassisted: no sled dogs, no wind kites, just two men dragging their food, their shelter and themselves across the barren ice.In 100 years of polar exploration no-one had ever walked from the edge of Antarctica to the South Pole and back without assistance. Many expert teams had tried. None had ever succeeded. Cas and Jonesy almost became another statistic.Eighty-nine days to hell and back - it took every bit of physical and mental strength they could muster. Pulling loads that started at 160kg each, in temperatures as cold as -40 degrees Celsius, Cas and Jonesy battled crevasses, white outs, gear failure, injury, frostbite, hypothermia and madness driven by slow starvation and isolation. Against all odds and defying expert opinions, having skied 2275 kilometres in the harshest environment on Earth and being almost devoid of life, they made it back to the coast ... and they made history.PRODUCTION DETAILS:A Quail TV Production |
