Summary Expanding the Pie provides useful tools and frameworks to support managers in designing, implementing, and evaluating effective (cross-sectoral) nonprofit-corporate partnerships. New paradigms that harness collective solutions and maximize the strengths of different sectors are required to address the complex problems the world faces today. These new approaches create models that benefit businesses as well as society, thus expanding the pie for everyone
Susan Ross outlines three types of partnerships
Bilateral partnerships directly between non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and businesses
Tri-party partnerships involving NGOs, businesses, and government agencies
Multi-stakeholder initiatives that bring together partners with diverse interests in order to achieve common goals
She reviews 46 partnership cases to identify factors that made the partnerships successful and culls lessons to enhance future partnership. Lastly, she provides a decision-making framework with key questions and tools to assist managers in selecting partners and designing, implementing, and evaluating effective NGO-corporate partnerships
