The National Library's Np 821A SWE copy has a photocopied note by E. J. Brady which describes “Mac” as a “wild Irish-Australian” with an “astonishing memory” whose poetry, written through “Bohemian glasses,” was not widely apppreciated by his contemporaries. According to Brady, Sweeney worked in the Victorian Land's Department when he first met him and was later a journalist. He died of cancer in Melbourne in 1936. ANL |
