Summary Donkey In Lahore is an intimate documentary which follows a young man whose skills as a puppeteer took him on a journey that would unexpectedly change his life. While visiting the small town of Lahore in Pakistan to perform at a puppet festival, Brisbane-born Brian meets 17 year-old Amber. Ten years Brian's junior, Amber doesn't seem a likely match for the eccentric Aussie lad. Deeply engrossed in her Pakistani culture, Amber is a devout Muslim still living at home with her tight-knit family. Yet in a whirlwind two-week "romance", during which the pair are never alone together, they somehow manage to develop strong feelings for one another and Brian is convinced that the meeting was not merely a coincidence - it was destiny. The pair continue their relationship at opposite ends of the globe via email and frequent telephone calls. And in order to give the relationship a chance to develop further, Brian converts to Islam and changes his name to Aamir. Despite his almost obsessive desire to be with Amber, Brian soon realises that it isn't going to be easy. As he battles the Australian immigration system, costly trips between the two countries, his own religious conversion and subsequent lifestyle changes, Brian cracks under the pressure. However he must compose himself as he prepares for the toughest battle of them all - convincing Amber's parents that he is worthy of their beloved daughter. What unfolds in this hour long documentary is a bizarre love story that spans the globe, and connects too vastly different cultures.Donkey in Lahore is a documentary 5 years in the making. Filmed in true observational style, award-winning Australian director Faramarz K-Rahber delivers a powerful film full of intimacy and intrigue.
