Summary |
Snowball Sportswear is a major sportswear manufacturer with declining sales. Their CEO, Kyle Palmer, built the business from the ground up and refuses to let the successful reputation of the company be compromised in any way. To compensate for declining sales, Snowball has been using pull-forward sales techniques. However, the company's auditors and the Securities and Exchange Commission may not agree with their accounting for these sales, causing bigger problems for the company in the future. This case explores both the ethics and proper accounting treatment of pull-forward sales by providing students with experience using data analytic analysis techniques to detect financial statement irregularities or potential fraud. Students will be asked to consider the proper revenue recognition and ethical consequences of pull-forward sales techniques.Instructional case, pull-forward sales, earnings management, ethics, disclosures, revenue recognition, ratio analysis |
