Description 1 online resource (12 min.)
Summary Early colonial painters depicted the Australian landscape through European eyes, but gradually local artists developed new ways of seeing and were able to interpret their surroundings with greater affinity. They came to understand the intensity and brilliance of the light and the unique colour palette. This short film provides a brief history of Australian landscape painting, featuring works by Conrad Martens, S T Gill, Louis Buvelot, Arthur Streeton, Tom Roberts, Frederick McCubbin, Charles Conder, Sidney Nolan and Russell Drysdale, with artists Hans Heysen, Russell Drysdale and Charles Bush discussing their own particular approaches to the genre
