Series Family footsteps
Summary "Sara, 31, is the daughter of an Egyptian father and Australian mother. Growing up, Sara followed her father's lead in his desire to assimilate, accepting everything Australian and ignoring everything Egyptian. She and her two sisters and brother grew up like stereotypical Aussies, Sara in particular developing a passion for extreme sports from dirt bikes to snowboarding. Sara has always felt like an Australian, but after years of denying it, Sara's heritage has recently come back into her life. Sara's father and mother divorced when she was 12, and her father has since remarried a Lebanese Muslim and rediscovered his Muslim heritage. Sara desperately wants to reconnect with her father. Her journey to Egypt is a means of gaining an insight into her father, his culture and religion. Excited about the idea of living in a strict Muslim household and experiencing life as an Egyptian woman, Sara flies to Cairo, Egypt to meet Zeina - her mentor. Zeina is a 26-year-old tour guide and, like Sara, she does not fit the mould of a typical Egyptian woman. Becoming a part of Zeina's family, Sara sees just what would have been expected of her as an Egyptian woman today. But to truly understand her father and her heritage, Sara knows she must connect with her family. And with Zeina for moral support, Sara apprehensively travels to the town of Tanta to meet her father's family." from website
