Summary Adolf Hitler consistently denied his family lineage, for fear that his ragtag bunch of ancestors and living relatives could tarnish his reputation or expose his imperfect Aryan background. His family had a history of psychiatric disorders, and his second cousin, Aloisia Veit, was locked up in an asylum for nine years, before being sent to the gas chambers for being "unworthy of life". Hitler was embarrassed by his sister Paula, and made her live under the assumed name of Paula Wolf. Paula became engaged to Dr Erwin Jekelius, medical director of the asylum who sent hundreds of mentally ill patients, including Aloisia Veit, to their deaths. Hitler's half-sister Angela used her influence to have unwelcome neighbours brutally removed from Hitler's private retreat on the Obersalzberg. He became infatuated with Angela's daughter Geli, and practically imprisoned her, leading to her subsequent suicide. Alois Hitler, Adolf's half-brother, exploited his connections to open a bar in Berlin. He was married (simultaneously) to two women and his son from the first marriage, William Patrick Hitler threatened to air the dirty family linen if he weren't provided for handsomely in Berlin in the thirties. William Patrick Hitler moved to the USA before war broke out and subsequently railed against Hitler. After the war he married, and changed his name and address several times. His three sons have been at pains to hide their lineage, and have had no children themselves, leading the film-maker to suggest that the Hitler family want to stamp out their own line. From Germany, in German, English subtitles) (Documentary)
