Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders are the Indigenous people of Australia and have lived by hunting animals and gathering plants for thousands of years. When the settlers came to Australia in 1788 life for the Indigenous Australians changed, their land was taken so they lost their sources of food and contact with their sacred areas. indigenous Australian were urged to assimilate and often forced to live on reserves. Indigenous people today still continue their struggles for justice and equality
