In 1985-86, the Commonwealth Schools Commission approved funds under the Education of Girls element of the Commonwealth Projects of National Significance Program to support a literature search and evaluation of existing research on single sex/coeducation in Australian schools, since the majority of existing research findings were inconclusive, some appeared contradictory and some sources of relevant findings were obscure
