Summary |
The dominant tradition in policy studies has clearly been that of functional analysis based upon essentially economistic conceptions of education. Moreover, policy development has been seen largely as something done by experts and imposed by administrators on a somewhat recalcitrant education system. It is our view that such a conception of policy development and analysis seriously misrepresents the nature and activities of education systems. Collectively, these monographs attempt to explore some of the dimensions of social struggles in Australian education. Beginning with a formulation of a critical theory of policy development and analysis, the series continues with a historical examination of various federal initiatives on educational policy. An analysis of the equality debate follows and then an analysis of the current crisis in relations between youth, schooling and work. Two further monographs add practitioner perspectives on policy formation in the areas of schooling and gender, and community participation in schooling |
