Summary |
"This book describes how a number of different institutions in the UK have met the challenge of criticisms by introducing innovative teaching, learning and assessment strategies, in particular the development of clinical skills laboratories. This does not mean simply re-opening and dusting off the practical rooms that were closed in the 1980s. Clinical skills laboratories are designed to provide a realistic but controlled simulation of clinical practice in which students can learn and practise skills, safe in the knowledge that mistakes do not matter. As the case studies in this book illustrate, clinical skills laboratories also offer opportunities for experiential learning, insights into the skill from the patient's perspective, self-directed learning and the assessment of clinical competence. By learning fundamental clinical skills prior to contact with real patients, students are able to take full advantage of the valuable learning opportunities offered in clinical placements."--BOOK JACKET |
