Summary "This documentary tells the remarkable story of Temple Grandin, the autistic academic who has changed the way we understand animal and autistic behaviour. Temple was born with autism in 1947, in an era when it was accepted that children with such disabilities would be institutionalised. But over 50 years later, she has become an internationally respected animal behaviouralist with a passion for cattle. Temple can instinctively understand animal behaviour, as she believes that the autistic mind is closer to the animal mind than the typical human mind. Constant anxiety, intense perception of detail, a need for order and predictability, and a complete lack of understanding of the emotions of other people are all autistic characteristics that Temple attributes to animals as well. While Temple?s work stems out of her own frustration and desire to understand her own brain, her theories about animal behaviour are both groundbreaking and utterly unique. It seems inconceivable that these same connections between the way animals and the autistic think could have been made by anyone who did not have Temple?s autistic mind, scientific training and academic brain.
