| Summary |
"Starring Hollywood legend Burt Lancaster (The Killers), Ulzana's Raid is a classic cowboys and indians western cum allegory for the Vietnam War; a veiled 70s reference to the human toll wreaked by American imperialism. Often cited as one of the last great westerns, this raw, unforgicing drama follows a cavalry platoon's mission to capture a band of Apaches who have been rampaging across the mid-west of America. Director Robert Aldrich's (The Dirty Dozen) fame of cowboys and Indians is played out through a fine performance by Lancaster as a grizzled, veteran scout who assists in the gruelling hunt for murderous Apache leader Ulzana, but who comes into conflict with a youthful Lieutenant and Christian idealist (Bruce Davison) comannding his first assignment.
