Summary |
Wildest Islands is a celebration of the world's most spectacular islands, and the wildlife who call these jewels home. Islands can be home to the most extreme examples of life, and some of the most dramatic landscapes. Isolated for hundreds of thousands of years, pockets of individuals survive, thrive and adapt, meaning an abundance of especially rare and unique plants and animals to discover. This second series of Wildest Islands, delves into some of the most untouched habitats on earth, from the watery world of the Amazon to the tropical paradise of the Philippines. This five-part series also explores the extreme climates which make up Japan's 7,000 islands, the rivers and creeks of Vancouver Island and the breathtaking coastline of the Falkland Islands.Japan's 7,000 islands cover an incredible range of extreme climates from frozen seas and snow-capped mountains, to sun kissed beaches and steamy mangroves. Winter can be brutal, and Japanese snow monkeys endure the cold by basking in volcanic pools. Spring is a busy time for Japanese fishermen and the sea birds that catch fish for them. In contrast, summer in the southern islands is sweltering, with crabs patrolling the steamy mangroves.
